Research on Research › Forums › Narrative CVs › Chatter session on Narrative CVs success
The first Chatter session in 2024 has provided a great window to learn the latest news on the implementation of Narrative CVs (or similar tools) across the funding sector. Highlights of this session will be out soon to those who attended the session and the hub community. As always, get in touch (use the Contact Us tab) if you would like information on this, or would like to receive highlights.
Thanks for putting together the session, Alex. I found it very engaging, though something I noted was the different approach someone like Sean and I (both working for research funders) are taking compared to many of the audience members working at research institutions. Funders typically see the benefits only, as we seemingly have little to lose or adapt to – and can focus on integrating the CV format into our usual processes. In contrast, research institutions need to upskill their researchers and ultimately have everything to lose if they don’t keep their researchers competitive.
It means that funders and institutions might perceive the narrative CV very differently, and events like last Thursday’s Chatter Session showed this. It will be important to consider that difference in expectation, and to respect the other group’s enthusiasm or reticence.
Ultimately, IMHO it will take 2-3 generations of researchers before this format and the idea of ‘narratives over numbers’ fully takes hold. Whether PEP-CV is adopted will be key to this.
