The NIHR acknowledges that sex and gender significantly shape individuals’ and populations’ experiences of health, illness, and social care, as well as broader health determinants. NIHRs work in this area supports the long term aims of the Women’s Health Strategy for England and is part of a cross sector initiative (the MESSAGE Project) which aims to bring the UK inline with best practice standards for sex and gender in research.
